Routine Maintenance We recommend a complete overhaul and cleaning at regular intervals (every two years) to keep your heirloom clock operating smoothly and accurately. As airborne dirt gets into your clock's mechanism, it becomes a gritty abrasive when it combines with the clock's oil. As the clock runs, this abrasive mixture wears out the pivots and bushings in the clock to the point where the gears and wheels do not mesh properly, and soon the clock loses efficiency and eventually fails. Routine cleaning and proper oiling prevents this damage from wearing out a valuable movement. Lubrication of the mainsprings prolongs their life and lessens the chances of breakage. Please... never ever lubricate any clock with silicone or WD-40... they are not designed for a clocks delicate mechanism. Clock maintenance is best left to an experienced professional.
